Angels were all over Oklahoma this weekend looking for answers, we should have a post reporting back about the Legion meeting in Woodward which was well attended by supporters soon, but let me share my personal experience of trying to get answers on Friday.
I took the time to drive 90 minutes to the Oklahoma American Legion headquarters in Oklahoma City to try to talk to the man who could reverse the decision to close the home if he wanted, State Adjutant David Kellerman.
After arriving at his office, I found out that he was out for the day, so I asked his secretary if I could set up an interview next week to discuss the closing. She called him, then said that I would have to talk to their lawyer. She wrote down his information for me, then informed me that everyone was under a gag order not to talk about this situation. I thanked her for the information and as I was leaving she said "You have no idea what you're doing."
I don't know if it was a threat, or just some insight she had gleaned from our short meeting, but the honest truth is I, along with everyone else fighting for this cause, don't know what we are doing. We are just a group of people that want to make sure that the Kids and Employees of the ALCH have a chance to keep their way of life past December 31st. That we finally get real answers for our questions. And that the board that decided to close down the ALCH understands that we are not just dollar figures on a spreadsheet they can move and delete, but people with a passion to make sure that 44 disadvantaged and abused children have a CHANCE.
I read it as a threat, and a good sign that we may be getting under their skin. I have heard that at least one board member has already had to disconnect his phone. We will not give up until the end. And if the end is not what we wanted, I hope we never forget what happened and make sure THEY never forget either.
Coming up this week - video interviews and a postcard campaign that you can be a part of!
